Point of Sale System UI cover

Every second at the counter counts.

A point-of-sale interface is used hundreds of times a day, often by staff who didn't choose the software and won't read a manual. The design has to be learnable in minutes and fast enough to keep a checkout line moving.

This dashboard prioritizes large, thumb-friendly tap targets, a visible running total at all times, and a category structure that gets cashiers to any item in two taps or fewer.

The problem

Many POS interfaces cram too many actions onto one screen, forcing cashiers to hunt for items mid-transaction. That hesitation slows checkout lines and increases ring-up errors.

The goal

Design a dashboard where the most-used actions — item search, category browsing, and checkout — are always one tap away, with a totals panel that never leaves view.

Designing for muscle memory.

01 · Research
Mapping the workflow
Broke down a typical transaction into its smallest steps to find where delay and errors usually happen.
02 · Information design
Prioritizing the dashboard
Organized categories, search, and the order summary into a layout that keeps the cart total visible at all times.
03 · UI design
Large, tappable targets
Sized buttons and category tiles for fast, accurate taps under counter conditions, not mouse precision.
04 · Testing logic
Reducing tap depth
Restructured navigation so any item could be reached in two taps or fewer from the home screen.

A checkout flow built for the counter, not the boardroom.

The result is a dashboard that favors clarity over density — fewer screens, bigger targets, and a total that's never out of sight.
